Flatland is an adaptation of the 1884 novella by the mathematician Edwin Abbot, 'Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions' about what happens when a square, living in a two-dimensional world, discovers two parallel universes, a one-dimensional world of lines (Lineland) and a three-dimensional world (Spaceland) that brings new depth and meaning to his life. 
Ehlinger has maintained the basic conceit of Abbot's novella, but updated the satire to modern times to produce a rich and original film that uses the power of animation to take us on a trip from the eerie monochrome of Lineland to the colourful madness of Spaceland.
