Join us this Saturday for a fun-filled midday adventure in North Berkeley. We'll meet at the northeast corner of Shattuck Avenue and Vine Street, at the newsrack in front of the Coldwell Banker office, and walk through Live Oak Park to Codornices Park. The highlight of Codornices Park is a cement slide that we can slide down--no need to bring your own cardboard unless you want a "fresh" piece--so be prepared to act like a kid again! (Don't worry, the slide attracts a wide variety of ages.) The Rose Garden is across the street, so depending upon how well the plants have held up, we can meander through it. Then we'll return to the Gourmet Ghetto for a slice of pizza at the Cheese Board. It'll be clear (if not a bit cool) out, so we should be able to dine in the street median in true North Berkeley fashion. The pizza of the day will be broccolini, onions, mozzarella and Canadian cheddar cheese, garlic olive oil, and gremolata. Yum! (Important note: The Cheese Board accepts cash only, so be sure to bring $2.50 for a slice and $1.50 if you opt for a drink. Cheese and bread prices vary.) It's difficult to say exactly how long this adventure will take us. Considering the total walking distance is a little over 1.5 miles, and that we may have to wait in line at the slide and for pizza, we could spend a couple hours having a blast. Hope you can join us!

Join us for a "walk and talk" around Lake Merritt this Thanksgiving morning at 11:00 with the Oakland Walkers Meetup. What is a "walk and talk"? We meet, stretch, and then walk all the way around Lake Merritt. Along the way, we socialize with one another and enjoy the beautiful Lake Merritt setting. The Oakland Walkers group regularly hosts Monday evening walks, during which group members often discuss their goals for the week. But the conversation is up to you! The total walk time is approximately 75 minutes. We'll meet and stretch underneath the pergola, located on the El Embarcadero side of the lake, before heading out. See you there! P.S. For those not familiar with the area, parking is available on the surrounding streets and in a lot underneath the nearby freeway. Also, AC Transit Routes 12, 57, and NL stop within a block. The nearest BART station is 19th Street, over a mile away, so be sure to save enough energy for the 3.5-mile walk if you go that way.

By popular request, join us for another late night happy hour this Friday. This time we'll check out Sea Salt, which was recommended by a group member. Sea Salt, located next to Caffe Trieste in West Berkeley, is a nice-but-not-too-fan cy restaurant serving up a cheap late night happy hour menu. The focus is on seafood, but other meal options include land animals, vegetarian goods, and liquid nourishment. See Yelp for reviews. We'll meet in front of the restaurant at 10:00. Please be prompt, and RSVP only if you expect to attend. See you Friday!

Join us Saturday for an adventure at Albany Bulb. This unique waterfront "former landfill" will bring out the true explorer in all of us: We'll traverse the various dirt trails, climb abandoned cement refashioned into art, take in the beautiful San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge views, and maybe even walk on water (or at least low-lying rocks). It is essential that you wear closed-toe shoes with good traction for this particular adventure. (Boots are not required.) A sense of balance is good to have but not essential--explorati on partners are free to take the "easy" route at any time. Feel free to pack water and a camera. Sunblock might be a good idea, too. We will meet at the very end of Buchanan Street, where the car turnaround is, at 11:30 AM. Our adventure will last as long as we want, but my best guess is to plan for an hour and a half to do the Bulb justice. See you Saturday! P.S. The Oakland Walkers Meetup has been invited to join us. Note: Parking for Albany Bulb is available along Buchanan Street. Bicycle racks are available at the meeting location. The nearest transit line is AC Transit Route 52L, which stops at the corner of Buchanan Street and Cleveland Avenue. Access from the bus stop to the meeting location is provided by a dedicated bicycle/pedestrian trail (via an overpass that connects with an underpass) along the northern edge of Buchanan Street.

Do you like sleeping in on weekend mornings, then strolling down to a local coffee shop for a warm smile and hot beverage? Perhaps you are new to town and don't recognize anybody there? Well, this is a great opportunity to join others for coffee (or tea or hot cocoa) and friendly conversation at a local coffee shop. We will meet Sunday morning, October 4, at Local 123, a newer café located on San Pablo Avenue near University Avenue. Local 123 has pastries to go with its drinks, so be sure to bring your appetite. Local 123 is clean, attractive, and has a variety of seating arrangements. The large back patio is especially good for groups, so we'll try to sit there--assuming the weather and crowds cooperate. Even if they don't, stop by and say hello to the resident cat. Look for David outside the entrance, and once enough of us have assembled, we will go inside to start ordering. See you then! (Edit: Attendance cap has been raised from 15 to accommodate all interested parties; however, seating may be at a premium. Please review your RSVP to confirm you will be attending. Thanks!)

Ashkenaz is hosting lessons for Balkan Folk dance and then dancing. I don't know what is Balkan Folk Dance. So I am taking a chance in going there to learn and have fun. I surely have two left feet. Do you care to try and provide secure social network to each other on this fun adventure? If you do then please come joins us all who are itching to dance in this new city. Following is the detail of event at Ashkenaz "This monthly event is a revival of ’70s-style Berkeley folkdancing with some international request dancing to recorded music, capturing the spirit that David Nadel was inspired by when he opened Ashkenaz in 1973 with Balkan folkdancing. One does not need a live band to experience the communal pleasure of dancing together, and the dance lessons help newcomers join in the experience." It is only $7 Door opens at 6:30 PM Dance class starts at 7:00 PM Show starts at 8:00 PM

One of the casual dinner to break the hard work week. If you are new to town or state and looking for casual setting to meet some people while enjoying delicious food. This is one of the place. If you can't attend for this day no problem. More will be coming up soon. Currently I am opening this to only 20 people. So please RSVP for the event. This will help restaurant and myself in ensuring that we all sit together and know who all is coming. Feel free to post your comments. About Restaurant: Usually while organizing this casual Wednesday dinner, I try to have it in the local restaurant. This time I am making it an exception to go to a local to CA chain restaurant. The reason to this exception is to provide chance to introduce Gourmet Ghato to the folks new to Berkeley area and a restaurant in there which is easy on pocket. So come along and enjoy savory crapes and much more.
