Hello everybody!
Everything is going smoothly and many of you are coming regularly to our Wednesday intercambios. Thank you, I'm delighted you're enjoying them. In this looong email.
As we have gotten busier, I have not always had the opportunity to talk to newcomers as much as I would like. Apologies. The first 15-20 minutes are alwas busy as I set-up, give out name tags etc. But afterwards, when everyone is in their groups, I have more time to talk, so please approach me with any questions.
Here's the info:
1. Tuesday intercambios: New for meet up group
2. Intercambio structure (1. meet, mix, mingle, 2. ice-breaker, 3. Five minute language bell)
3. Coming soon: Intercambios in Gracia (Tuesdays from 8pm-10pm) Metro: Joanic.
4. Price change from Nov 07: First timers 2euro, regulars: 4euro (to standardise prices), up until now, meet-up people paid 3euro, whilst everyone else paid 3euro.
5. Add your name to the "English Oasis Cafe" mailing list for weekly updates (more information than the "meet up" structure allows me to do.
6. Medieval market meet-up this Saturday at 11am (Santa Catarina market, Gotico).
As you know, this "New in Town" meet-up group feeds into an established social / linguistic intercambio group which has been running for some time. These days, our intercambios attract between 20-25 people every Wednesday.
TUESDAY INTERCAMBIOS: What I have so far not been advertised through the meet up site, is our Tuesday intercambios. Nor our methodology. I have now included our Tuesday intercambios in the Meet up calendar. Check them out if you're interested.
INTERCAMBIO STRUCTURE
Some info about how we run our social / linguistic intercambios.
1. Mix, meet & “mingle” before the “ice-breaker” . This gives me time to meet you all, collect payment, and take your drink order. (approx 20 mins)
2. “Ice-breaker activity” (duration approx 30 mins) New ice-breaker every week.
3. Change seats bell (at approx 8pm on Tuesdays and 9pm on Wednesdays)
4. Change language bell every 5 minutes (starting approx one hour from the start)
INTERCAMBIOS IN GRACIA
We will soon be running two intercambios Tuesday evenings. Those in Excellence bookshop from 7pm-9pm and a new one in Gracia (metro: Joanic L4) from 8pm-10pm. Stay tuned for further information.
PRICE CHANGE FROM NOVEMBER
As you may know, up until now, the fee for meet-up members was 3euro while others paid 4euro. As of November, we will standardise the price to 4euro for everyone. The good news is that first-times from the meet-up group will only have to pay 2euro, to try us out.
Good thing too is that our weekend activities are usually FREE for those who attended an intercambio during that same week and 3euro for others.
ADD YOUR NAME TO THE ENGLISH OASIS MAILING LIST
If you come to our intercambios on a regular basis, you might want to add your name the "English Oasis Cafe" mailing list. You can remain on the meet-up group, but the English Oasis mailing list is more informative, complete and regular. There are no disadvantages, just ease of communication.
MEDIEVAL MARKET MEET UP THIS SATURDAY AT 11AM
This Saturday, Santa Catarina market will turn medieval. Stall keepers will wear medieval costumes and sell cookies and other yummy things on the street. As the market is closed on Sunday and closes at about 3pm on Saturday, we need to meet up "early" 11am. I will try to add this event to the calendar as soon as a meet-up point is arranged! Should be from 11am to about 1pm.
